ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a hands-on National Payroll Manager to lead our payroll function across ~1,000 employees, 32+ manufacturing sites, six states and multiple legal entities. You'll manage a team of five, own the full payroll lifecycle and be the go-to authority on all things pay, compliance and legislation.

We're a fast-paced manufacturing business that makes infrastructure products out of concrete, plastics, steel & poles. Our workforce is paid weekly across multiple pay cycles in multiple employing entities, award and EA-covered employees, shift workers, overtime, and allowances. It's complex, it's interesting, and it needs someone who thrives in that environment.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

- End-to-end payroll processing for ~1,000 employees nationally across MicrOpay
- A team of five
- Award and EA interpretation
- STP, payroll tax across five states, superannuation, payroll compliance, audits, and EOFY
- Workers' compensation administration and WorkCover insurance across all states
- Payroll reporting for the Executive Leadership Team and Board
- System integration between MicrOpay (payroll), Tanda (T&A) and ELMO (HRIS)

NON-NEGOTIABLES

These aren't "nice to haves." If this isn't you, this isn't the role.

1. You have led a payroll team processing pays for 500+ employees across multiple states and entities. Not assisted. Led.
2. You know the Fair Work Act, NES, award interpretation, payroll tax, and payroll tax grouping legislation inside out. You don't need to Google it.
3. You are obsessively accurate. You reconcile because you want to, not because someone asked you to.
4. You can explain a complex payroll issues to a site manager in language they will understand.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- 10+ years in payroll with at least 3-5 years in a complex payroll management role across multiple states
- Extensive experience with award and EA interpretation, STP, super, payroll tax and workers' comp
- Experience with payroll systems (MicrOpay advantage), time and attendance system where the award or EA interpretation is present (Tanda ideal) and HRIS platforms
- Advanced Excel skills
- A process improvement mindset, you don't just run payroll, you make it better
- The ability to be collaborative, lead, mentor, develop and hold a team accountable
- Manufacturing or multi-site experience is highly valued
